Nelson, Mabel M, (Marshall), 89, of 1 North Curtisville Road [Concord, NH], died yesterday [1/6/1994] at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Melvin Mills, the daughter of Hattie (Roby) and Albert Marshall, and had lived in Penacook for many years before making her home with her daughter Evelyn. She attended Simonds Free High School in Warner and graduated from Keene Normal School, class of 1921. She taught in Sutton and Warner schools for several years. She was a 67-year member of Sawtelle and Pineconia Grange, where she was past master. She also belonged to the Merrimack Pomona Grange, the New Hampshire State Grange and the National Grange. She had worked for the Manufacturer’s and Merchants Insurance Company for many years before retiring in 1969. She leaves a son, Richard D. Nelson of Canterbury; four daughters, Catherine E. Kalloch of Concord, Joyce E. Ahern of Hopkinton, E. Mae Merchant of Springfield, Mass., and Evelyn D. Nelson of Concord; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and cousins. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord. The Rev. John I. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the East Sutton Cemetery in the Spring. Calling hours are Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., preceding the services. Contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice. Newman, Margaret, ROCKLAND [ME] -- Mrs. Margaret Newman, 80, died Tuesday [1/11/1977] in a Rockland nursing home following a long illness. She was born Oct. 4, 1896, in Rockland, the daughter of Captain William R. and Cora L. Dresser Kalloch. She was a member of the Rockland Emblem Club and the First Universalist Church here. She is survived by a brother, Ralph Kalloch of San Remo, Italy; two nephews, Anthony Kalloch of Bedford, N.Y. and Mitchell Kalloch of Clements, Md.; a niece, Paula Troutman of Bronxville, N.Y. and five stepchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Universalist Church in Rockland with the Rev. William J. Robbins officiating. Interment will be at the Achorn Cemetery at a later date.
Norton, Martha Burkett, Mrs. Martha Burkett Norton, 71, of 75 Broad Street, Rockland, wife of Zebediah A. Norton, died at a Gardiner nursing home late Thursday evening. Born on May 28, 1898 at Burkettville, she was the daughter of Frank J. and Mary S. Kalloch Burkett. Besides her husband of Rockland, Mrs. Burkett is survived by three cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. from the Davis Funeral Home at 558 Main Street, Rockland with Rev. William J. Robbins officiating. Interment will be at Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.
