Aug 30, 1939

The 70th [72nd*] annual reunion of the Kalloch family was held at the Penobscot View Grange Hall, Rockport with 34 present.

At the conclusion of the usual picnic dinner, the meeting was opened with the singing of America, after which the call to order was given by Vice President, Mrs. Ella Robinson, Mr. E. K. Gould not being present.

The nomination committee was elected, Mrs. Mabel Rollins, West Somerville, Mass., Miss Cora Murdough, Waltham, Mass., Mrs. Dora Kalloch, Thomaston, Maine.

Com. on Location: Arthur D. Kalloch, Miss Edith Watts, Lynn, Mass., Miss Mary Kalloch, Warren.

Com. on Entertainment: Miss Mary Kalloch, Miss Mabel Rollins, Mrs. Esther Long of Newark, NJ.

The following officers were elected:
Pres. E. K. Gould Rockland, Vice presidents Daniel Kellar of Rockport, Everett Kalloch, James Kellogg of Cambridge, Mass., Mrs. Lillian Joyce of Rockland, Mrs. Ella Robinson of St. George, Robert Simmons of Rockland and John D. Kalloch of Hatfield, Mass.

Greetings from Miss Jennie Moody of Waban were read by Miss Edith Watts; remarks were made by Edwin Kalloch of Warren, Mrs. Mabel Rollins, Mrs. Ella Robinson and Miss Mary Kalloch.

Under the leadership of Mrs. Mabel Rollins all joined in a salute to the American flag. Mr. Edwin Rollins of Somerville, Mass. gave an interesting demonstration of the burning of swamp rushes which were used as a substitute for candles in olden days. It was voted to hold the reunion at the Glen Cove Hall next year. The oldest person present was E. J. Kalloch, 90, Geo. Libby, 90. Youngest Donald Riley, Thomaston, 11.
