Though he was born in Tenn., his parents lived in Hernando, De Soto Co., Miss., at the time. A farmer, he homesteaded in the south Tarrant County area, served in the Civil War with Griffin's Battalion of the Confederate troops protecting Galveston
Harbor. He was a delegate to the last Demo. State Convention in Dallas and was a co. commissioner and prominent farmer and rancher. Seven children, four of whom lived to maturity: Mary Elizabeth, Martha, James, Laura.
