Notes for James Killough

James and Nancy were in Lancaster Co., Penn., as late as 1794. They were in Montgomery Co., Ky., as early as 1800, living there for more than twenty years. Nancy and her daughters attended Bethany Presbyterian Church in Montgomery Twp. in the early
1820's. On March 19, 1822, they sold the Kentucky farm on Hinkston Creek and moved to Indiana, homesteading in Owen Co. on June 12, 1822. The first permanent settlers in Owen Co. came about 1818. Many pioneers were from Kentucky. James was a
justice of the peace and one of the leading citizens of the community. Nancy is buried in the Bethany Presb. Cem., Montgomery Twp., Ind., as is probably James, but his tombstone was not found. His will was drawn in OCT 1848 and was probated JAN 1850.
His name was written "Keelah" in a Property Indenture. He is the ancestor of the large group of Indiana Killoughs. Their seven children were Margery, Margaret, David, John, Jane Ann, Lucinda, and Silas.
